Dawn Stillfield is a child who moved to South Park relatively recently in the town's history.

Background

History

Dawn's history is shrouded in mystery, though throughout the events in South Park a cohesive narrative can be put together. Apparently, Dawn was born under similar circumstances to Kenny McCormick: while her parents were members of the Lovecraftian Cults. As such, she has abilities tied to the Elder Gods, in her case, a natural affinity for becoming a Dreamer. When she was born, her parents fled the Cult, and went into hiding, but Dawn's abilities became quickly and devastatingly clear when she began bending reality to her infant whims. In order to stop her from destroying the universe around her, her parents began dosing her with stimulant drugs in order to interfere with her Dreamer powers. It worked at first, at least until she grew older and her powers became stronger, but her life was constantly followed by the shadow of her abilities.

Identity

  • Race and Ethnicity - Technically, Dawn's race and ethnicity would be "White American", however, she due to major amounts of bullying in her past, she refuses to identify with her humanity, and therefore claims that she is instead simply an "Emo" when first asked, then an "Emo Vampire" after joining the Vampire Coven at Casa Bonita.
  • Gender and Sexuality - Dawn identifies as a Demiromantic Asexual Demigirl, an identity that often causes a lot of confusion in cissies, so she typically just tells people that she's an ace girl.
  • Alignment and Religion - Dawn describes herself as a "Lovecraftian Pantheist", a worshiper of all elder deities from Cthulhu to Yog Sothoth. Naturally, she is Chaotic because of this.
  • Power Source - As an Emomancer and Vampire, Dawn's power naturally comes from Blood, both others' and her own.
  • Kryptonite - Dawn's Kryptonite is Vampires, but not because she's particularly afraid of them. Rather, the opposite is true, and she knows that she won't be able to help herself becoming one if given the opportunity, which is exactly what happens during the rescue mission at Casa Bonita.
  • Economic Level - Using her Time Farts, Dawn is able to manipulate the market, becoming part of the 0.01%.

Criminal Record

  • Assault: Dawn gets in numerous fights and can hit people of their own age, older and even Kindergartners on the streets in general.
  • Breaking and entering: Dawn can enter people's resident without permissions, and even find ways to circumvent security measures. When Dawn receives the quest to bust Craig out of detention from Cartman, they enter the school's premises and gets into fights with the hall monitors in order to complete this task. In the end, they successfully bust Craig out from detention. Also, in order to deliver a message to Tolkien, Dawn has to beat up a security guard and break through a security gate after getting pepper sprayed, by deciding to wear a gas mask in order to prevent the pepper spray's effects.
  • Disturbing the peace: The goths easily persuade Dawn to prove that they are a non-conformist by taping a sign to the table in the Community Center saying 'Fuck the Conformists', whilst a big PTA meeting is taking place, and then taking a picture of the sign taped to the table as a source of proof (though due to the actions of Randy Marsh, they do not actually show it during the PTA meeting).
  • Espionage: Dawn uses a Police Hacking Device on a phone in Tolkien's house to gain undue information which would later be used in prosecution of Tolkien's parents.
  • Fake identity/Document forgery: In order to breach the Kingdom of the North (Canada) to decipher the abortion clinic records, Dawn is told by Cartman to assume another identity, Larry Bobinski from Cleveland. This was mostly Cartman's fault, because he came up with the idea in the first place and gave Dawn their new passport containing false information.
  • Impersonating a doctor and unlicensed surgery: Dawn must pretend to be a member of staff at the abortion clinic whilst dressing up as a girl. The girls' request them to find out who the 'two-faced bitch' is before they will join forces with the boys. Whilst at the abortion clinic, they have to perform an abortion to prove that they are an official member of staff, albeit on a man.
  • Impersonating a police officer: Dawn can wear SWAT gear pieces while going to places and fighting.
  • Murder: Dawn and the boys kill many Nazi zombies in the game, one of them being Chef, who was brought back to life by Clyde to kill Cartman and his gang (New Kid, Stan, Butters, Kyle, Jimmy, and Kenny). However, zombies may not technically be alive, and their Nazi zombie-hunting is furthermore officially endorsed by the South Park Police Department. They may also kill the bishop of Banff at the request of the Prince of Canada, however, whether or not they do is up to the player. Also, in South Park: The Fractured But Whole DLC "Bring the Crunch", New Kid can put dirt into a heavily injured counselor, killing him.
  • Property damage: Dawn causes a UFO to crash into South Park Mall, likely incurring millions of dollars, with UFO debris falling on other locations. This also forces the government to move in and cover up the site. Whether this also counts as property damage against aliens is unknown.
  • Theft: Dawn loots items from various locations and individuals. Including government properties.
  • Treason: Dawn enters the fenced-off UFO crash site, thefts the USB stick containing strictly classified government files, then delivers it to dissident adults, which likely threatened national security. They also defeated multiple Secret Service agents, Al Gore, as well as National Guard soldiers. It was possible that these crimes were overlooked by the government due to him helping to cure all Nazi zombies and that they are merely a child.
  • Trespass: Dawn have entered places off-limits, including the UFO crash site without government authorization.
  • Underage smoking/drug abuse: In order to recruit the Goth Kids, Dawn has to prove that they are a non-conformist. They establish this by dressing up like a goth, smoking cigarettes, and drinking coffee.
  • Vandalism: Dawn repeatedly break things like newspapers boxes, dispensers, and parking meters to get money or scrap.
  • Vigilantism: In South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Dawn becomes a superhero and puts the law into their own hands despite having no legal authority. Which has lead to many altercations throughout the story.

Grounded Moments

Dawn is grounded only if they do not stop The Hallway Monitor boss from calling their parents, stay in the Lost Forest too long, or if they stay away from home after their parents tell them to come home. However, through either a "supernatural" power, or simply through sheer disobedience, Dawn is "ungroundable", and is never hindered by the condition. On top of that, they have the ability to "unground" other kids by touching them, possibly by inspiring the same defiance of authority in the friends they touch.

Classes

In South Park: The Stick of Truth, Dawn chose to play as a Thief, given her natural affinity for knives and walking around light-footed.

In South Park: The Fractured but Whole, rather than choosing one of the base classes the Coon lists, Dawn invents her own class known as "Emomancer", which she described as follows:

"When a Plantmancer makes the horrible mistake of bonding with a parasitic plant known as an Emo, an unholy abomination is born, known as an Emomancer. With the parasite writhing just beneath the skin, the Emomancer is empowered by breaking that thin barrier, and releasing the Emo and its spores during battle."

Appearance

Gracie in their makeover outfit

Dawn in her makeover outfit.

When the New Kid first moved to South Park, they wore a dark gray jacket with scarlet collar, and identically scarlet pants. They also wore a pair of basic, black frame glasses. Their hair was brown and unkempt, but only about shoulder length.
While playing Stick of Truth with the other kids in town, and even for some time after the game was done, they tended to wear a multitude of different outfits. Their preferred sets of gear typically varied between the Fairy Princess set, a set of Bishop's clothing that they had dyed green, and the final Holy attire of their Jew class.
After a while of acclimating to the climate of the mountain town, they changed their attire to a simple dark gray long-sleeved shirt and dark blue pants. They also let their hair grow out, ultimately resulting in a much more androgynous appearance. They also got a new pair of glasses, and are seen to have very dark circles around their eyes, possibly hinting that their eyesight has gotten worse since they moved, or that lack of good sleep and their parents' fighting has exacerbated whatever condition they have.
During the Superhero game, the New Kid's attire was generally more limited. They tended to stick with the suit and gloves from the Arcane set, and would wear their old King Crown on and off. Occasionally, they would also wear the Witch costume they crafted from the recipe sold to them by Bebe, but only on special occasions.
When their gender aligns with more feminine identities, they are known to dress in more traditionally feminine clothing. Their usual go-to outfit includes a blue polka dotted dress, fake lashes, blue eyeshadow, and a bun wig, although they are known to ditch the makeup and dress in an ensemble of bluejeans, light blue shirt, and open-front brown jacket when they are feeling more casual. They also carry a Lolita wig around, in case they need to alter their appearance further. Truth be told, they also carry it around because it makes them feel pretty.

Personality

The New Kid is shown to be seemingly mute and voiceless in the game, and appears to display little emotion on their face, usually they have a blank expression on their face. They only have one actually spoken line, which is at the end of the game. Cartman and others occasionally note that The New Kid is quick to make friends on Facebook. Only on a few occasions, The New Kid used facial expressions to get their feelings of the situation across, such as when Butters heals them during combat, or when they use the toilet. The New Kid doesn't seem very keen on and shows little interest in socializing outdoors, despite their amazing capability to make friends quickly. In fact, it is revealed near the end of the game that before the age of 5, The New Kid had 3.2 billion friends on Facebook alone. Their unsocial attitude at the beginning of the game leads to their father kicking them out the house and shouting at them to be a "normal" kid and play outdoors. Though The New Kid can act unsocial, they are shown to be a kind hearted person who goes out of their way to assist others, such as when they saved Annie from three bullies. They also help Tweek Tweak get the four o' clock delivery at Kenny's house so that he has time to play Cartman's game. The New Kid will often take the role of Cartman's messenger; instead of speaking, they simply hand over a note which contains the information the receiver needs. Most people find their blank expression and their resistance to speech to be an annoyance, but Bebe Stevens called it 'hot'.

Talents

Dreaming: Dawn's most notable talent is her abilities as a Dreamer. At their peak, a Dreamer can possess power and immortality on the level of a Lovecraftian God, bending reality to their whims and even creating entire sub-realities of the Dreamlands all to themselves. Dawn's powers, however, are disrupted by a crippling case of insomnia, brought on by the use of stimulant drugs from basically birth as a way for her parents to keep her powers from destroying everything around her. Despite this, her ability is still quite powerful, and is able to warp reality to the extent that she and her friends gain additional powers and abilities derived from whatever game they are playing at the time.

Farting: Another notable talent is her farts. Technically a side effect of a medicine her parents had been slipping her for her entire life, Dawn is able to use her farts as a weapon in combat in a number of ways.

  • Combat Farting: Cartman teaches her the most basic farting ability, Dragon Shout, and tells her to never fart on someone's balls, he later teaches her how to "cup-a-spell" and reminds her not to fart on someone's balls. Randy teaches Dawn a more complex farting ability, the Sneaky Squeaker, again telling Dawn to never fart on a man's balls, and she is taught the most powerful farting move, Nagasaki, by Terrance and Phillip (who don't forget to remind to never ever fart on a man's balls), and they get her to practice her newly learnt Nagasaki on three pedophiles.
  • Time Ripping: After the switch to the Superhero game was made, Dawn learned several new and powerful farts that could bend the very fabric of space and time from their mentor, Morgan Freeman, by creating various Tex-Mex foods.
    • Glitch: The first of these Time Farts was "Glitch", gained by eating the Enchirito, which allows Dawn to displace an object or other person in time in order to reset them to a previous state.
    • Pause: The second Fart they learn is Pause, gained by eating the Cheesy Shrimparito, which allows them to stop time for a few moments in order to bypass hazards.
    • Shift: The third Fart learned is Shift, gained by using Glitch on a high-powered fain, which allows them to rapidly advance time to change the time of day.
    • Leap: The fourth and final Fart learned at the behest of Morgan Freeman is Leap, gained by eating the Seven Layer Quesarrito Chipotle Beefy Nacho Supreme, which allows Dawn the ability to travel freely through time, with the caveat that they must believe in themselves completely, or they will be unable to fully control the time travel.
    • Summon: They also learned a fifth Time Fart, Summon, through their own creation, the Chocolate Memberito. The Summon Time Fart can be used to summon an alternate past version of Dawn to aid them in combat.

Adaptability: Over all, Dawn is extremely adaptable, and can often find ways to turn a bad situation to their advantage. On their first night in town, they were abducted by aliens who attempted to implant them with an anal probe, only to damage the probing device and gain control of the probe itself to activate the teleport beacons around town. Again on their second night in town, they were attacked by Underpants Gnomes and shrunk down to gnome size, only to eventually track down and defeat the warlock who did so and take his magic gnome dust, enabling Dawn to shrink and grow at will.

Combat: Dawn also has quite a talent for fighting, as Scott Malkinson said, "Yeah, the New Kid may be a douchebag but he sure can fight!" This uncanny combat prowess may simply be a result of their Filter ability, however.

Flash Changing: Dawn has been shown to have a talent for flash changing, able to don their superhero outfit near instantaneously while spinning in place, and change it just as quickly any time they feel the need.

Crafting: Dawn is highly skilled at crafting various things, including food items and costumes. This implies that they have a talent for both cooking and sewing. In addition, they are able to very accurately change the color of parts of the outfits they have, implying they have a talent for dyeing clothes as well.

Family

Father

The New Kid's father seems to be a good, concerned parent, though he often pressures The New Kid to go out, more so than The New Kid's mother, and make some friends, 'like a normal kid'. When The New Kid hangs around the house, this irritates their father and he practically kicks them out of the house. He seems to be particularly irritated by his child's mute nature; on one occasion, he even tries to bribe them into speaking.

Mother

The New Kid's mother seems to be a lot softer than their father. Though she encourages The New Kid to go outside and socialize, she does hand them some money and warns them to come back before it gets dark. Unlike their father, The New Kid's mother does not seem to be particularly irritated by The New Kid's mute nature.

Relationships

Butters Stotch

Butters is the first character The New Kid can befriend in the game. He fights alongside The New Kid in the beginning. The New Kid smiles whenever Butters uses healing touch on them seemingly showing friendship.

Princess Kenny

Princess Kenny is the second character made available to fight alongside The New Kid, after Butters. After The New Kid finds a flower for Kenny, they become friends. However, later on in the game she betrays them and the others by taking the stick of truth for herself (himself) and becomes extremely powerful. In order to stop her, Eric slightly reluctantly tells The New Kid that they must break the oath they made, which was to never fart on someone's balls, and by doing so, The New Kid manages to stop Kenny.

Stan Marsh

Stan is the third character made available to fight alongside The New Kid, after Butters and Kenny. When The New Kid is captured by the elves and ordered to recruit the goths by the King of Elves, Kyle, he and Stan try to convince The New Kid that Eric is using them to his advantage. Stan seems to respect and trust The New Kid as the king does, especially when New Kid helps Stan retrieve his iPhone from the 'She-Ogre', who is his sister Shelly.

Jimmy Valmer

Jimmy is the fourth character made available to fight alongside The New Kid, after Butters, Kenny and Stan. The New Kid first meets Jimmy in their search of the Bard, who is Jimmy. The New Kid and Jimmy are not shown together much but seem to get along fairly well.

Kyle Broflovski

Kyle is the fifth character made available to fight alongside The New Kid, after Butters, Kenny, Stan and Jimmy. Kyle and Stan try to convince The New Kid that Cartman is simply using The New Kid for his own benefit, and Kyle tells them to recruit the goths and bring the goths to them instead of Cartman. Kyle says that he is trusting The New Kid to do what is right, and if he performs an act of betrayal, he will tell everyone that The New Kid is a "butthole".

Eric Cartman

Eric is the sixth character made available to fight alongside The New Kid, after Butters, Kenny, Stan, Jimmy and Kyle. Being the Wizard King, Eric welcomes the new kid, The New Kid, into his game, and does not seem to harbour any ill will for The New Kid. He even teaches The New Kid a special ability called Dragon Shout, where the Dragon Shout user releases an extremely powerful fart. Cartman frequently tells The New Kid to never fart on somebody's balls time and time again, as an oath.

Randy Marsh

The New Kid befriends Randy when they are abducted by aliens and is almost probed, but uses the Dragon Shout ability that Eric taught them in order to avoid being probed. Randy then asks them if this was their first time being probed and tells them that they have an incredible control of their asshole. Later, The New Kid saves Randy from the aliens and Randy says to consider them as a friend. After the incident, The New Kid and Randy encounter each other several times in South Park. Randy decides to assist The New Kid by improving their farting skills, and teaches them a farting ability called 'The Sneaky Squeaker'. When New Kid successfully learns this by practising on Mr. Mackey, Randy tells them to sneak inside Taco Bell and see what they're up to in there, by using the newly learned ability he just taught them, and then report back to him. When Randy is encountered by The New Kid again near the end of the game, Randy greets them by saying, "It's my favorite kid" right as he runs past his son, Stan. Like Cartman, Randy warns The New Kid to never fart on anyone's balls.

Annie Knitts

The New Kid saves Annie from a group of three bully girls, who took her Justin Bieber doll and taunted her with it. After they chase away the three bullies, Annie thanks them and they become friends. Later in the game when The New Kid needs to recruit girls, they go to Annie first.

Monica Ryland

In order to recruit the girls to join their team, The New Kid has to fulfill Wendy's request to assume the role of Bebe's boyfriend from Lakewood, and ask Monica Ryland what the best thing to get for Bebe's birthday would be, to see if Monica is a two-faced bitch or not. When the two meet, Monica tells The New Kid that Bebe is a little two-faced, and then says she read a lot of their Facebook profile and that she thinks they're a really interesting boy, which leads to Wendy, Bebe, and Red confronting her with accusations. They bring Monica's boyfriend, Jake, to her, for payback, but when Monica runs away, Jake says to The New Kid, "Whats the big idea trying to fuck my girlfriend?" This leads to The New Kid and Jake fighting. After that, on Facebook, Monica apologizes to The New Kid about Jake flipping out and tells them she'd still love to be friends. It turns out she wasn't the one who was spreading rumors about Allie Nelson going to the abortion clinic.

Security Guard

When The New Kid attempts to get past the security guard to Token's house, the security guard is not hesitant to pepper spray New Kid in the face. But when they encounter for the second time, The New Kid wears a gas mask and must fight the security guard to get through the gate. After New Kid's victory, whenever the security guard sees them again, the guard always says that he can't look at New Kid without feelings of deep personal shame.[2]

Quotes

  • Eric Cartman: "Let's ask Douchebag! What do you wanna play next, dude?"
The New Kid: "............Screw you guys, I'm going home."
  • Kyle: "So... you're the new kid everyone is talking about. What's your name?"
    The New Kid: ...
Black-Haired Elf: "He doesn't talk, Elf King, he thinks he's hot shit or something."
  • Wendy Testaburger: "What request do the boys ask of us?"
    The New Kid: ...
Annie Knitts: "He.. doesn't really talk."

Trivia

  • Dovahkiin is a reference to the playable protagonist of the 2011 video game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. "Dovahkiin" translates to "Dragonborn". Skyrim was developed and published by Bethesda. A previous promotion for Skyrim had Bethesda offering free Bethesda games for life if someone named their child "Dovahkiin", and New Kid's name is likely due to this.
  • All the kid girls are shown to be attracted to them. Despite them being gender fluid, and their biological sex remaining a mystery, the girls (with the exception of Wendy) all believe them to be a boy just like most other residents, making them one of the few "boys" that all of the girls like, along with Bridon Gueermo.
    • In addition, many of the main boys also seem to show some level of attraction to the New Kid's more feminine traits, though they often play it off.
